climate change led to my eco balance catalogue
In the late 90’s various media began to refer to events that may be examples of climate change. Over the following years more and more events were covered in this context and more was expressed about reducing climate change effects. In other searches I was making I noticed in historic ruins how often nature re-established often with trees growing in the ruins.
In 2007 I began a series of works called “forest lines”. These images came from a desire to express my concern for and bring attention to an ecological view of how our activities impose on our environment. l used a tree symbol as mankind has depended on trees for all of our history in so many ways. Even today so many things in our lives are made of wood. I use a sense of space, often as an open sky and selected architectural pieces as examples of our environmental imposition.
I began each painting with a tree selected from my files. In my kayaking travels over the years with my partner Susan, I would take photos of trees for some reason and sometimes buildings. These images and historic structures were altered and digitally transferred to the canvases. As ideas and visuals evolved I created new sections in this series with a different emphasis or point of view. I continue to add new paintings to the series.
A few years ago I designed and printed a catalogue of these paintings.

An updated version of the catalogue is available and can be ordered (see contact page). The price is $65.00.
